"Free" in software usually means one of three things: a trial that runs out, a version so limited that you have to upgrade, or a product where you are the thing being sold. Field Ops is none of these. The daily work of a trade company, meaning jobs, customers, the plan and the app the crew uses in the van, is free for everyone in the firm, with no end date, no card and no user limit. You pay only if you add one of four packages, and only for the field workers who actually work.
This guide goes through exactly what Free includes, where the limits are, what the packages cost, and how to think about it.
What does Free include?
Free covers the daily work of a trade company of any size:
- Everyone in the company. A login for each person: office, field, part-time, apprentices. Invite by link. Norwegian, Swedish and English.
- Jobs and planning. Jobs from new to completed, including repeating jobs. The job list, the Kanban board, the map and the dispatch board. Put jobs on people by hand: a worker, a date and a time window.
- Customers and sites. Customers, sites with encrypted access codes, and the equipment at each site.
- The app. The full iOS and Android app. It works without signal and syncs afterwards. Photos, the customer's signature, and clock in and out.
- Paperwork. Forms, and a job that cannot start until its risk assessment or SJA is filled in. The HMS handbook and the basic checklists. Anyone can report a deviation.
- Talking. One-to-one chat, notes on the job, and a status page the customer follows without logging in.
Data is stored in the EU, and you can cancel at any time.
Where are the limits?
Free is not a trial, but a few features that cost us money to run have a monthly allowance on Free. The allowances reset every month:

Storage (5 GB), SMS (25 a month) and voice minutes (15 a month) have fixed caps that apply on every plan. Planning by hand, clocking hours and reporting deviations have no limit.
When an allowance is used up, that feature pauses until next month. The jobs, the customers and the app carry on as before.
What do the packages cost?
Each package is one job you stop doing by hand. Prices are per active field worker per month, ex. MVA. Office users are not counted.

Three more things about the price:
- A minimum of 3 field workers. Paid packages are billed for at least 3 active field workers, so Complete for a small firm costs 597 kr a month.
- Pay for the year, get two months free. The annual price is ten monthly prices.
- Every package is on for 30 days. A new company has all four packages for its first 30 days. After that, everything falls back to Free with the allowances above, and you choose whether to add anything.

Why is the daily work free?
Because we charge for the four packages, not for the daily work itself. A company that keeps its jobs in Field Ops sooner or later has a job worth taking off its hands: the route planning, the timesheets to payroll, or the invoice the same day. The package is there when that happens. If none of them is worth the money to you, you never pay.
It also means there is no advertising in the product, and your data is processed only to deliver the service, within the ABAX group and its vetted subprocessors (see the privacy policy).

The difference matters most for small firms. A two-person company can run its whole operation in Field Ops for years without paying, and that is fine by us.
Who is Free for?
- Sole traders and small firms that plan in their heads, by text message and in a spreadsheet today, and need one place for jobs, customers and photos.
- Companies that want to try a system without committing. Start with the jobs, and see whether the crew actually uses the app before you consider a package.
- Companies that already have ABAX in their vans. Sign in with ABAX, import the organisation, and the vehicles are on the dispatch board with Work Plan.
Free fits less well for companies that need payroll export every week or send more than five invoices a month from day one. For them, Time Tracking or Billing & Invoicing is right from the start.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a card to start? No. You look up the company by organisation number, answer four questions and create the first job. A card is only needed if you buy a package.
What happens to our data if we never buy anything? Nothing. Jobs, customers, photos and forms stay where they are. Every area has its own way out when you need it: customers as CSV, hours as a payroll file, invoices and quotes as PDF, and the public API.
Do apprentices and office staff count as field workers? No. Everyone gets a free login. Packages count active field workers only, meaning those put on jobs in the month.
Can we buy just one package? Yes. Packages are bought separately, or all four as Complete.
