What is an order management system?
An order management system is the software that runs the flow of jobs — from a customer ringing in to book one, to the technician carrying out the job, hours being logged and the invoice being sent. In Norwegian trades it's also called a work order system (arbeidsordresystem), case management system or field service system.
At its core is a work order (arbeidsordre): a digital job card that holds what needs doing, who's doing it, where it's being done, and what it costs. Everything that happens on the job — hours, materials used, photos, deviations — is tied to this order.

What does an order management system do in practice?

In practice many systems offer both: simpler order handling for service jobs and a project layer for more complex work. Depending on what you do most, you'll weight them differently.

Is an order management system the same as an ERP system?
No. An ERP (enterprise resource planning) is a broader system that typically covers accounting, inventory, HR and production. An order management system is more specialised — focused on service jobs and field work. Many order management systems integrate with ERP or accounting systems rather than replacing them.
Do I need order management if I use Tripletex?
